We all know that virtual reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) are both all the rage right now. There are lots of VR apps where you can put on a headset to travel to a virtual world. With AR, you can super-impose the virtual world onto the real world using your phone’s camera. Google wants to do its bit to help developers with making their next VR or AR app.
Some of the examples include a pizza, an eagle and even a toy robot.
If you are planning on building an AR app, then you will be glad to know that the objects on Google Poly will work with both Apple’s ARKit and Google’s ARCore. This means you can just bring these objects straight into your apps with very little work.
Better yet, you can upload your own objects to poly as well. Simply click the “Upload” button to start that process.
On one hand, this is a great tool for developers. This allows them the chance to add something that might be missing into their app. In fact, if you are someone who is a newbie when it comes to developing a VR or AR app, perhaps you can just download some these objects and play around with them at first before using them. This might even help you to prototype your app.
My only fear is We’ll see lots of cookie cutter apps being submitted to the Google Play Store. Some people might just throw some of these objects into a world, and submit an app Google Play Store. I am not saying that all developers are like that, I am just saying that there’s a chance it could happen.
