At their annual developer conference known as IO, Google announced a new wireless speaker/assistant called Home.
Of course the way that you activate is by saying “okay Google” and it will then listen out for an instruction that you want it to carry out for you.
There are lots of different things that it can do. For example, let’s say I have a song on my phone that I want it to play. I can then send that music to my Google Home device and it will then play the music on the speaker. You can even stream music from the internet on a speaker that is connected to Chromecast Audio device (google’s device which makes it easy to send music to a wired speaker in your house).
The other thing that you can do is you can also use it as an assistant of sorts. Let’s say you are arranging an apppointment at with your doctor. You can say, “Set up a meeting with my doctor at 2PM tomorrow”. You can even have it set reminders.
Let’s say there’s a cool video on YouTube that you want to watch on your TV, you just tell the Google Home device to send it to your TV and it will do just that.
At this time there is no pricing information on it but we do know that Google Home will be available later this year.
Overall it seems like a competitor to Amazon’s Echo device. With that being said some people might see a device that is always listening as an infringement of privacy.
Would you consider buying a Google Home? If so why? Let me know in the comments.
