If you were around in the 1990s and played video games then you may recall that there was an awesome first person shooting game called Goldeneye. It was the game that re-defined the first-person shooter genre. Well, a group of fans have remade the game. It’s called Goldeneye: Source and contains 25 multiplayer maps, 10 game modes and all 28 weapons from the original game. To have a little taster of what to expect, check out the trailer below.
Unfortunately there is no single player campaign. This is due to the fact that they do not have the resources or the number of developers required to make a single player campaign.
Just for clarity, Goldeneye Source has been available for a while. However, this is the first proper update in three years.
You can download Goldeneye source for free right here. It’s not available from Steam due to legal reasons but you will need steam in order to run it.
I have very good memories of playing the original Goldeneye game on the Nintendo 64(I’ll save those for another edition of Adi’s Time Tunnel). At the time of writing, I have not played Goldeneye source as of yet. With that being said this trailer has me super excited. From what I have seen in the trailer it looks like they have done a great job of remaking some of the classic levels from this Nintendo 64 classic(including the Dam, the Facility and the Temple). Either way I am definitely looking forward to putting this through its paces and I am sure that I will be writing my thoughts on it, so be sure to check back for it soon.
However, I won’t be surprised if this project gets taken down.
What was your favourite level from the original Goldeneye game?
Also, have you tried out Goldeneye Source? If so, what do you think of it? Let me know in the comments!
