Skype is one of the methods of communication out there. It’s got instant messaging, audio and video calling. However, it will now allow you to pay someone in the middle of an Audio/Video call or instant messaging conversation with a feature called “Send Money”. This was announced in a post on the Skype blog on Wednesday.
Suppose you were in the middle of a video call with a friend and you’ve just remembered that you owe them money for a meal at the restaurant. You would be able to send them money via PayPal without having to leave the call.
To send money, you will need to have the latest version of Skype installed whether you are on a desktop computer/laptop, smartphone or tablet. You can receive money on any version of Skype.
Send Money is going to be available to users in the USA, the UK, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain. It’s rolling out to Skype users in the above countries right now.
First of all, I will say that this is a really convenient feature to have. There are a lot of people out there that use Skype. To be able to pay someone for the dinner you had the other day, or maybe a website you built for someone would be a time saver of sorts.
With that being said, Apple’s messaging app allows to send money to someone else using Apple Pay. If you have an iPhone or iPad you can even ask Siri to send some money to someone via PayPal.
In short it’s basically a time saver and a nice thing to have and it gives you another way to send money to someone.
Would you use the new “Send Money” feature in Skype? Let me know in the comments!
