(Update: link to my giveaway/competition added)
Today is a day that shall go down in the history of this website. I am so pleased to announce that Adi’s Tech Site is 5 years old today.
I thought that I would take this opportunity to tell you a little story.
I started Adi’s Tech Site back in May 2011. At the time I had just graduated from university. I was somewhat unsure as to what tools I could use to start this website. I noticed that Tumblr was a good way to go(being a free service) so I set up my Tumblr account and started to write. You can visit the old Tumblr site by visiting adikhajuria.tumblr.com.
I started this website because there seemed to be a lot of misinformation going on as far as technology goes.
Most important of all I started Adi’s Tech site because I have a passion for technology and I wanted to share that passion with you.
In the same year I also launched a podcast called MHF Tech with a good friend of mine that I met on my university degree. It was a technology podcast packed with the latest technology news, product reviews, how-tos and even the occasional listener question (to name but a few things). We even went out to shows like EuroGamer Expo (now known as EGX), Cloud Expo and Unified Communications Expo and did special episodes for those shows.
In late 2011 I decided that it was time to step up my game a little bit. As such I decided to buy some web hosting for this website along with a proper domain name. I also used this site as the home for my podcast.
In that same year I also decided to sign up for Google’s Adsense program. This allows you to put adverts from Google on your website and in return you get some money from those adverts. When I did so I decided that any money I earn from Google Adsense would go straight back into the website.
In 2012 I decided to move web hosting providers for this website. Whilst it did not effect much of what you saw, I decided to move to one that had good customer service as well as affordable hosting. After weighing up my options I decided that Vidahost(affiliate link) ticked all the boxes. I have been with them since then and I highly recommend using them for your web hosting needs. By the way, if you are interested in buying some web hosting from Vidahost then use the coupon code adistech10 at checkout and you will save 10 percent on your next order. Not only that but you also help me to keep this website going.
In mid 2014 I was at Wikimania. This was the 10th annual Wikipedia conference of the global Wikimedia movement. There were over 200 talks that covered a wide range of topics in the including open data and the future of education. A few of the main speakers included Jimmy Wales (the founder of Wikipedia – a man who I had the privilege to meet) and Bill Thompson(from the BBC – who I also got to meet). I was involved as a volunteer at the conference so I helped out with a lot of different tasks. As part of the evening entertainment programme I was one of the organisers of the successful Wikimania Games Corner. It was basically a pop-up space that existed for one evening of the conference where people could come and play some games.
In early 2015 a lot of you might remember that I redesigned this website. I decided to do this because I felt that the old design was causing my website to be slower. Whilst the previous design allowed you to view my website on your smartphone or tablet it was slowing the website down. To me that was unacceptable so I decided to invest some money in some tools to help me with the redesign.
Another thing that happened in early 2015 I had an operation on my eyes. It was an eye opener for me (in more ways than one!). For two whole weeks after the operation I had to stay away from screens altogether. That meant, no Facebook, no gaming, no writing articles for you to read, nothing. Long story short I left the internet for two weeks.
Thankfully I made a speedy recovery and I was back to work after that two week period. However, when using a computer or tablet I had to magnify things by 250%. That’s before I could wear glasses again. Thankfully my eyesight is back to normal and I am back to wearing glasses.
In mid 2015 I decided to end my podcast because things were getting quite busy for me in my personal life. It was not an easy decision but I felt it was for the best that I decided to stop it. Ever since I have been asked quite a few times if I will ever decide to bring the podcast back. Unfortunately the answer is not in the forseeable future. With that being said we have not ruled out bringing the podcast back. If I do decide to bring the show back then you will be the first to know.
Here on Adi’s Tech Site I have also enjoyed covering the really big events over the years like Google’s IO developer conference, Apple’s WWDC conference and even the annual international consumer electronics show (AKA CES). I would fire up the live video stream for these events on my iPad and take notes on my desktop computer. I would then take a short break after these 2 hour marathons by having something to eat and then coming back and writing up articles.
So fast forward to today, approximately 1000 articles published and 5 years of writing(in one form or the other) under my belt. I feel like I have learned a lot about how to write good content. With that being said I am not going to stop there. I am glad to report that Adi’s Tech Site is going to continue to exist for a long time to come.
So, how am I going to mark this anniversary? I have a giveaway where you will be able to win one of two £20 Steam vouchers/digital wallets. Right now I also have some other projects in the works so stay tuned for updates on those.
So what else am I planning to do going forward in terms of content? I want to cover gaming a lot more as gaming is an important part of technology and gaming is another one of my passions. On the weekends I love being able to turn on my gaming computer and playing games like Street Fighter V, Unreal Tournament(yes, the new one) and Rocket League(even though I am still a newbie player). I also want to try and experiment with covering hardware a lot more. I would also love to hear what you think I should cover more of one this website. Leave your suggestions in the comments below.
I have been doing well this website, but I want to grow even more and this is where you can come in. Make sure you like the Adi’s Tech Site Facebook page and follow me on Twitter (I am @Adiman423. This is where you guys will know when I post new articles(including the giveaway that I am planning).
Last but not least I want to say a huge thank you to you for your continued support over the last 5 years. Without you I would not be where I am today with this website. I cannot thank you enough.
