Microsoft are making a final push to get people to upgrade to Windows 10. Over the next couple of days you will start seeing a full-screen announcement giving you the option to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. At this point you will be presented with this screen(shown above) three more times. After that you will then be able to opt out of upgrading altogether.
This brings up another question: What if you decide in a few months time that you want Windows 10? Well, the answer is that you will have to pay a lot of money. You will have to pay $119/€135/£99 in order to upgrade to Windows 10.
I think that this is a very intrusive move to get people to upgrade to Windows 10. I’ve heard and seen many stories of people waking up in the morning to find that their computer had been upgraded to Windows 10 behind their back because of these pop-ups. As such I think that there is going to be an increase in these “accidental” upgrades. In fact, I think that people will be less likely to upgrade to Windows 10.
The only real justification that I can think of for this behaviour is to do with their Xbox play anywhere program. The idea of this program is that people who have a game on Xbox One will then own the PC version at no extra cost. Additionally they will have their game progress transferred to the PC version of a game.
Just for clarity I should point out that I like Windows 10. With that being said I think that Microsoft have been too aggressive about getting people to upgrade to Windows 10.
