We’ve already heard some huge news from Microsoft at their media briefing at the annual E3 show in California USA. However, for those of you that missed it there was some other huge news as far as the actual games that came out from Microsoft.
Microsoft has confirmed that Killer Instinct is coming to the PC. Not only that but it will support cross-play. This means that if you are on the PC, you will be able to play online against people playing Killer Instinct on the XBox One. The official twitter account for Killer Instinct also confirmed this with a tweet sent out on Wednesday morning.
We’re so excited to share that KI is coming to Win 10 at E3 – but we don’t have any more to share at this time. pic.twitter.com/parhAY0uSd

In addition to that, if you have an arcade stick for the XBox 360 or XBox One then that’s going to work with Killer Instinct without you having to do any work. As per the above tweet, you will need to upgrade to Windows 10.
Whilst we don’t have a release date, keep in mind that Season 2 was released in October 2014, whilst season 1 of Killer Instinct released in November 2013. So if season 3 is released for XBox One during the latter part of 2015 then it would make sense for the PC version to release sometime betwen the latter part of 2015 or early 2016.
Now this is some huge news. First of all, it’s going to increase the player base of Killer Instinct a lot. Windows 10 is coming out on the 29th of July. As it’s a free upgrade that’s going to be quite a saving for those that do upgrade.
Additionally there is the cost of having to buy an XBox One (nearly £280 – affiliate link) at the time of publishing this article. On top of that, if you want to buy an arcade stick (and you should not cheap out on one) then you have to pay more than £120 (affliate link). All being told, you are looking at a little more than £400 just to play the game (that’s if you stick to playing the game for free).
If you already have a good enough PC for it, an XBox One/XBox 360 controller then you are good to go. Most important of all Microsoft has also lowered the barrier to entry for Killer Instinct. If Microsoft also stick to the free-to-play model that they used for the XBox one then that’s going to lead to a lot more people at least checking the game out.
Some of you might see having to upgrade to Windows 10 as a deal breaker. With that being said it’s a free upgrade to Windows 10, so as long as your PC or laptop will support Windows 10 then i’ts a no brainer to upgrade. Therefore, that whole argument of having to upgrade to Windows 10 being close to not being an issue.
Killer Instinct was originally released as an exclusive title for the XBox One during November 2013. Back when it came out a lot of people were saying that Killer Instinct was the reason they bought an XBox One. A lot of people were also saying something along the lines of “I am not buying an XBox One for just one game”. That being said, there are a lot of good titles that have come out for the XBox One including Titanfall since the console launched. Now that Killer Instinct is coming to PC.
On a more personal level, I have opted not to buy an XBox One because there were not enough games that I liked to warrant me buying one. However, now that Killer Instinct is coming to the PC I no longer have a reason to buy an XBox One.
What do you think? Will you be upgrading to Windows 10 to play Killer Instinct? Let me know in the comments
