Welcome to another edition of Adi’s Week in Tech News. If you are new, this is my roundup of the week’s technology news stories.
Here in the UK, we’ve had a little something called black Friday. This is a day where people go mad in the stores looking out for deals. It actually started as an american thing but it’s come to the UK. Of course one of the best places to get deals on video games was the Steam store. They were running the Steam Autumn Sale. The vast majority of the games (and software applications) have been discounted. If you are unsure of what to buy then some of my picks include Tekken 7, Cuphead and Dark Souls III. If you are reading this on the 26th of January 2017, then you still have time as the Steam Autumn sale is still live until 6PM UK time on the 28th of November 2017.
The folks at Humble Bundle also have their own deals as well. Just like Steam, you will have until 6PM UK time on the 28th of November 2017.
If Steam is not your thing, then of course, there were some deals on Sony’s PlayStation store on Black Friday as well.
We all know of Skype as being a way to make video calls (and voice calls) to those we know and love. However, this week Skype for iOS was removed from the Apple’s app store in China. This is due to it not complying with the laws in the country.
Some of you out there might have a drone. However, if you are in the process of getting one you might have some extra work to do. This is because there’s new legislation in the planning stages right now. It would mean that drone users might need to undergo some safety awareness tests. If your drone weighs more than 250g then you may be required to keep it away from airports. Additionally you might be required to keep it below 400 feet.
If you have a PlayStation 4 there’s a chance you might have recently bought a copy of Gran Turismo Sport. Well, you might be in for a treat if you miss some of the single player modes from the previous Gran Turismo games. There is a new update which will add a new mode called GT League. Just like the previous games, you will be able to compete in a series of competitions. Some of them might require a certain type of car or a certain brand of car to enter. GT League will be coming to Gran Turismo Sport in December.
Imgur is a photo sharing service similar to Photobucket where you can upload a photo and share it with people. In a blog post that went out on Friday they confirmed that there was a breach of their site that dated back to 2014 where 1.7 million email addresses and passwords were compromised. Per this statement, the best advice that they can give is to change your password on that website. Personally I would strongly urge you to use a different password for every website you have an account on.
That’s your roundup for this week. What were your favourite news stories? Let me know in the comments.
