Today brings us some huge news on the podcasting front. If you’re like us, then you will have your podcast on Stitcher as well as other various podcast directories. However, the big news is that Stitcher announced to all of their partners that downloads through the Stitcher Smart Radio app and website will now count toward your regular podcast statistics.
The way you used to track your statistics is you would normally log into your media host(e.g. Libsyn, Blubrry or podtrac ) to get the stats for your episodes. In addition to that, you would have to log into the stitcher partner portal to get your stats for people listening to your podcast on stitcher. To make matters worse, those listens did not count as part of the stats you saw on your podtrac or blubrry or other regular stats system.
From now on, when somebody listens to an episode of your podcast in the stitcher app on a smartphone or from the web browser on a desktop/laptop, it will count as a download.
As a podcaster, why would you care about this news? Well, if you do a lot of advertising on your podcast, then this will allow you to earn more money on those CPM campaigns where unique downloads are a key component of how much advertising revenue you get.
